BEIJING UNSPLASH PHOTOWALK

“WE DON’T JUST WALK THE WALK, WE WALK THE TALK.”

SPOT 1: NEON SIGNAGE

MEETING STRANGERS IS NEVER MY THING

MEETING STRANGERS IS NEVER MY THING

I mean I find myself more like an introvert that enjoys alone time and often feels as if I express myself better in writing than in conversation. However, the opportunity to host an Unsplash Photowalk in Beijing is really something I can’t say no to. Given this will be the first and final time I ever organize an event in Beijing. Yes, I'm relocating back to Bangkok by the end of November after 5 solid years in the capital of the mainland.

SPOT 2: GAME ARCADE

MEETING STRANGERS IS NOT A BAD IDEA AT ALL

Especially when you get to meet the like-minded. There were 22 of us gathered in front of Adidas Flagship in Sanlitun. There was just a little bit of an overture and we then jumped straight into sharing the tips and camera settings for a night portrait. As we were scouting for the venue, searching for places that give us warm pretty yellow light. And this is actually the moment I enjoyed the most. The weather was just lovely because Autumn was just kicking in a week ago. Everyone barely knows each other but with the passion for photography, it made me feel like we were friends for so long. We walk and we talk!

SPOT 3: ADIDAS FLAGSHIP

MEETING STRANGERS IS LIKE AN EYE-OPENING

It was quite a walk before we found the first spot, it was in the game arcade where they have this built-in black partition surrounded by the LED lights. We took a turn to model and shoot. Everyone really knows how to act but not everyone has a camera and know how to shoot. There were a few first-timers who are loyal fans of Unsplash, yet second-guessing themselves whether they want to take photography seriously. They used my camera which I don't mind at all while other friends showed them how to deal with it. See? Passion never failed.

The second stop was all the way back to where we started. It was in front of the Adidas store where they displayed giant Adidas logo signage and since it was the meeting point so might as well we gave it a shot.

The final stop was the neon light which I personally like this spot the most. Is it just me who's into the neon light? I feel like I can gaze at those lights all night long.

AND THAT’S A WRAP!

MEETING STRANGERS LEAD INTO MORE THAN JUST A STRANGER!

I get to learn so much, not just photography techniques but get to know 'stranger' as a 'person'. Stranger that I now called 'friend'. When it comes to a goodbye moment, we felt so much attached and it was a really fun walk. I don't know if I will ever get to see them again in real life but I'm not too worried as I have followed most of them on Unsplash, and I can't wait to see their awesome works!
